Lapand Resort Information

Cheap Holidays > Lapland Holidays > Lapland Resort Information

Lapland is a mysterious region in the far north of Scandinavia Europes last frontier. It is the region inhabited by ancient nomadic tribes of reindeer herders, the Sami people. The ancient province extends across the borders of modern-day Finland, Norway and Sweden and takes in the sparsely populated, northernmost areas of those countries.

Lapland is perhaps best known as the magical home of Father Christmas. Transun has been operating holidays to Lapland in search of Santa for well over a decade. The region is home to huskies, reindeer and vast tracts of snow-covered plains ideal for snowmobiling. In winter, temperatures rarely rise above zero, often dropping anywhere between 7 and 30. At this time of year, the ground is usually decked with snow, and the sun never clears the horizon from about November to February.

Davvi Arctic Lodge...

When you step inside from an amazing day's activities amid the snow, ice and spendour of Europe's last wilderness, warmth is the commodity your body and soul most longs for. And warmth is exactly what you will be met with at the Davvi Arctic Lodge, a simple hotel steeped in local charm and character. An open fire blazes in the hotel's cosy lounge, while the warmth of the welcome provided by the staff will soon have your cheeks glowing with pleasure. It's time to kick off those heavy layers of clothing and relax by the glow of the flickering fireside, perhaps with a glass of wine, a coffee or a warming brandy, while hungrily anticipating dinner. The accommodation is set on a secluded hillside on the edge of Karesuando, allowing you to savour the peace and tranquility of this beautiful, unspoiled region. The centrepiece of the hotel is its distinctive restaurant, which provides spectacular panoramic views across the snow-covered hillside towards the Swedish part of Karesuando.

The Hotel Rooms...

The Davvi Arctic Lodge hotel rooms are set on two floors in a wing that extends from the main building. All the rooms are simply furnished but comfortable. The double/twin rooms sleep two, plus one additional person on an extra bed (usually a convertible chair). The family rooms sleep four to five, with one double bed or two single beds, a sofa bed for up to two children (or one adult), and an extra chair bed or put up bed available for a third child. Please note that if these family rooms are utitlised to their maximum occupancy, the rooms can become cramped and storage space will be minimal. All rooms are en suite, although many of the bathrooms (shower, WC) are very small.

Main Facilities Include...

  • Bar
  • Reception
  • Restaurant
  • Spacious grounds

Arctic Star...

Situated on the outskirts of Swedish Karesuando, the Arctic Star is a traditional and friendly hotel. Although only a 20 minute walk from the Finnish border, the location feels genuinely remote and offers superb views over both a lake and the Muonio River. The rooms are relatively simple but cosy, while the hotel boasts a good range of facilities including a bar and restaurant that offers hearty local dishes.

The Arctic Star is in a good location to explore Karesuando by foot, dropping in at Swedens most northerly church, paying a visit to the local museum and crossing regularly between Sweden and Finland! It also offers the chance to follow in some very famous footsteps, as the Dalai Lama stayed at the Arctic Star on a visit to Lapland, a visit commemorated by his picture in the reception area.

The Hotel Rooms...

Standard Rooms

While these value-for-money twin and double rooms have not been refurbished in recent years, they nevertheless offer a generous 15.8 square metres of space, with en suite facilities. These rooms can accommodate a third person on a fold-up bed, if required. Perfect for the budget conscious.

Superior Rooms

These twin and double rooms enjoy a view from the front of the hotel towards Kaarevaara Hill and the nearby lake. These rooms are the largest that the Arctic Star provides, at an impressive 17 square metres. The en-suite shower rooms of superior rooms were refurbished to a comfortable standard in 2011.

Premium Rooms

The Arctic Star's premium rooms underwent a full refurbishment to both the room and the en-suite facilities in the summer of 2012, masterminded by a celebrated team of Parisian architects. Refurbished to a high standard, these double rooms feature digital underfloor heating, glass panels between the rain shower room and bedroom and feature mirrors. While stylish, space is limited, with modest storage space.

Main Facilities Include...

  • Restaurant
